.wedding.

i'm thankful that we had a beautiful wedding in july!  we had beautiful weather and our plans for the day went off exactly on time, on schedule and exactly how we had planned it all in our heads.

we got hitched at the litchi orchard in salt rock at 12pm on 14th july 2012.  the ceremony was officiated by bevan's dad, and took place in their outside chapel.  that was followed be a photo session with the family in the orchard behind the chapel.  a scrumptious true south african braai then followed that, then the speeches and some yummy cake.

our photographers, kathy and roy, really knocked it out of the park: their pictures are SIMPLY STUNNING.  we later got fridge magnets made by stickygram which we've since given to our close family members.

my mom and i chose the flowers (a mix of random garden flowers and proteas) a week before the wedding, picked them up the day before and spent the evening prior putting them in vases and setting them out.  my bouquet was done about an hour before i walked down the aisle.

my dress, i picked up at a shop on the high street in london in march - cost me a whopping R180.  my shoes?  zara for R800.  funny how the shoes cost 5 x more than the dress itself...

the real fun came when we all piled in the photobooth and ate ice cream all afternoon out of the back of a converted vw caravelle.  it was, quite simply, a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

the real star of the show though was our coordinator: she helped set up with us the night before and was there on the day to make sure everything was ready to go.  Debbie really was a godsend.

the next morning we had breakfast with the family, and then caught our flight out to paris.  a 2 week honeymoon in europe during the summer simply cannot be beaten.

i must admit however, that after 7 months of planning and pouring over guest lists and to do lists as long as my arm, i'm happy the wedding went off perfectly but really, that's it's done.  now we can get our weekends and lives back!

next up: some pics from our honeymoon.

.hello.

for far too long, i've been a negative nancy. i've always thought the worst, expected the worst and pretty much prepared myself for the worst.  this blog is all about a personal journey of mine: to take stock of all the awesome things in my life and stuff happening around me.

this is my compendium of all the things i'm thankful for:

bathtubs on checkered floors

the scrunched up faces of friendly bulldogs

calendars that keep my commitments and schedule in order

homemade cloud-shaped pillows

wise owls that let me know what the weather's doing - even before i've stepped outside

a verandah full of pot plants

a rooster welcoming me home

so.  who's leroy?  well, he's the guy that kick started this process: a really nice bloke sitting in a corporate call centre who happened to answer my irate phone call. he calmed me down, he sorted it out and ultimately gave me faith in the human race. but i didn't want it to stop there.  i wanted to be thankful on a daily basis.

.thank you.
